I recently took part in a compulsory paramilitary training for fresh graduates.
We were more than 4,000 ladies and gents. So we had individuals from different backgrounds, skills, and level of expertise.
Being a federal scheme, and having such a crowd, job posting by the scheme are bound to be fiercely competitive.
During my time there, I followed my passion and applied to be a member of the scheme’s media team. I was accepted, and it was there I got first-hand information that the scheme’s social media manager has gine AWOL, and that a new handler is needed.
The job advert was sent out and the application came pouring in. I applied too.
Though I have submitted applications before, this was the first time I’m aware of the size of the competition for a position I am applying for. The sheer number of applicants threw me off and I nearly put away the idea of dropping an application.
I beat that fear by deciding to make my writer portfolio stand out.
Maybe the other applicants had the same inclination, but I got the job, and that attests to the uniqueness and…
